We’re facing a dangerous supply shortage across the globe. What’s running low, you ask? Two things; mustaches and charitable donations.
Ok, so maybe mustaches are an arguable “commodity” that many would like to see disappear completely. But few would dispute that charitable donations, particularly to specific school projects through DonorsChoose.org, are always too scarce.

The DonorsChoose.org Social Media Challenge is in its final week and it’s been a huge success thus far. All together, over 300k has been raised from nearly 4,000 donors. Best of all, due to DonorsChoose.org’s model – where donors give directly to individual projects posted by teachers – we know that 94,609 students have been helped (how’s that for real time metrics?!?!).
Here’s how we (and I’m including all of you reading this in the word “we”) rank so far:
- Over $1,000 raised
- 201 students reached!
- 5th place in the Tech Blog category behind some big names, like Craigslist founder Craig Newmark
Let’s finish strong. I know many of you readers have kids. So if their school has a project listed on DonorsChoose (search here), email it to me or leave it in the Comments and I’ll add it to our Giving Page. And of course, the best ways to help are to …
- Donate through our Giving Page – There are currently 35 different projects to choose from and I’ll add any others you suggest.
- Help spread the word! Pass this URL on. Share it via Facebook with your friends, family and coworkers. Or even do it the old fashioned way … and pick up the phone.
DonorsChoose.org is a truly revolutionary charity and the ability to pick projects that interest you – based on city, district, school or subject area – makes it easy to find the right place to “procure” your donation. So please, if you can, help.
I’ll thank you now, but I’m sure a personalized thank you from the teacher and kids you help would mean a lot more.

All too often, we have good intentions in life but aren’t quite sure how to put those intentions into action. The cynics among us (and are there any non-cynics left?) question whether petitions we’re asked to sign really mean what we’re told and whether or not donations end up going where they claim.
