The Three C’s - Cost, Complexity, and Compartmentalization

As usual, a day late and a penny short due to the overwhelming interest in my new startup Coupa, I’m pleased to bring you my vieww on what the “Top 3″ issues are holding purchasing departments back.
First, some housekeeping. Michael L. of Sourcing Innovation came up with the idea for this series. Imho, he provides [...]

The Creepy-Cool SalesGenius Experience

As Coupa grows we’re getting serious about prospect followup, etc. One aspect of this is evaluating the quality of leads. In CRM terms, suffice it to say “quality” can mean whatever you want - in this case let’s say it measures interest-level (vs. budget-approved, is-the-right-sized-firm, etc).
For small firms like Coupa, the SalesGenius service seems pretty [...]

Legacy PO’s, Coupa Blog

Vendors of Procurement transactional software sit in a unique position. Once we complete a sale we collect a PO from the very system we will be replacing. It’s a little odd, but always satisfying.
On another front, I’m pleased to report we have managed to get the Coupa blog up and running. I admit [...]

Preview Release 2

We’ve put out a new release of Coupa eProcurement on Sourceforge. A lot of technical work went into this one - notably including turning the Open Source Edition into a rails engine. Although I’ll be the first to admit no buyer would ever get excited about it, being a rails engine sets the stage for [...]

Budgetary Control and Encumbrance Accounting

I had several great conversations with partners and prospects today.. A standout was a call with a higher education institution that has downloaded a copy of Coupa eProcurement to play around with & pilot. It was one of those nice open source moments where you know that making the product truly accessible had a hand [...]

+1 month from Launch

We’ve had 460 Downloads of Coupa eProcurement from 7/27 through 8/26. Good start- but lots of work to do. The closest apples to apples comparison I could find is to TenderSystem, even though that’s in the Sourcing space. They did around 200 a month for the 1st 3 months on Sourceforge. Sugar did around 400 [...]
